The radiologist Sahar Saleem from Cairo University teamed up with scientists from Liverpool John Moores Faculty to digitally recreate the face of Ramses II.

Among Egypt’s biggest pharaohs, Ramses II ruled throughout Egypt’s 19th dynasty, from 1279 to 1213 BCE.

Even though his mummy was found in 1881, historians haven’t truly been able to figure out what he looked like.

Scientists have believed that over time, a number of noses, face shapes as well as hair colors are found.

The team managed to make the pharaoh’s face digitally because of effective CT scan software as well as photographs, per ScienceAlert.

Complex tools made it possible for researchers to properly determine facial characteristics and distinguish between the mummy’s face and also embalming material placed within the skull.

“The program determines the characteristics of the different layers of materials on the mummy’s face, such as overlying linen bandages, and allows for the electronic unwrapping of the pharaohs,” Professor Shahar stated, per AuntMinnieEurope.com.

“modern image reconstruction software enables the visualization of fine facial characteristics like hairstyle as well as ear piercings,” she added.

The team determined that Ramses II may have had some fairly striking characteristics.

The mummy had an extremely strong jaw and a broad and distinctive nose bone.

Additionally, Ramses II had most likely a brownish skin tone, which is based on that which was typical in Egypt at that time.

Most notable possibly would be that the Pharoah ultimately may have possessed a complete head of red hair.

This particular evaluation was carried out using microscopic examinations of the hair of Ramesses II along with other fair-haired mummies.

Based on ScienceAlert, white hair was regarded as a “godly characteristic’ in Ancient Egypt.

This helps explain the reason Ramses II in drawings is frequently depicted as being a deity.

In spite of the use of cutting edge technology to form an evaluation of Ramses II’s characteristics, the researchers said it had been not possible to know for certain exactly what the ruler looked like.

It’s thought that Ramesses II died at the age of ninety two, following the 2nd longest reign in Ancient Egyptian history.
